ASA Member Events
Member meetups are surely the highlight of being an ASA member! A great day connecting with other members, learning from guest speakers, visiting private gardens, a chance to buy and sell aroids; every meetup is different.
Our meetups are completely volunteer-run, so if you would like to pitch in on the fun of the day, reach out to your State Representative.
Please note that member meetups only occur in the regions where there is a current State Representative - check our current committee page to see who your current Rep is, and if there isn’t one, maybe you could take on the challenge? It’s a great way to get involved.

Dr Thomas Croat’s Tour of Australia
In 2024, we were proud to bring world-renowned botanist Dr Thomas Croat to Australia. Dr Croat has conducted numerous research trips on behalf of the Missouri Botanical Garden and is widely considered one of the world's most prolific field researchers, having collected over 100,000 plant specimens in his career, as well as describing 800 new species.
We had Dr Croat visiting the majority of cities and towns in Queensland, along with all capital cities throughout Australia (excluding Territories). Tom’s visits also included a meet and greet, a brief presentation and a short Q&A.
We were excited to al so have exclusively for the Queensland leg, Mick Mittermeier (USA), and Enimie “Em” van Steenberge (Belgium).
Mick is a well-known anthropologist, having travelled extensively throughout South and Central America with a particular interest in the genus Monstera. (Instagram: @mickmitty)
Em comes to us as a current committee member within the EAS (European Aroid Society). Em has also spent time in South and Central America, with some of this time spent exploring Brazil; a country often overlooked in regards to its wealth of aroids. (Instagram: @emflorescence)
Floresta de Tropical
The Aroid Society of Australia is proud to present Floresta de Tropical (translating to “rainforest” in Portugese), a plant fair celebrating the beauty of tropical foliage and all the people who love them.
This inaugural event will be held on Saturday, February 1st 2025 in Brisbane at the Belmont Shooting Complex, with future plans of travelling to other parts of the country.
You can look forward to multiple vendors selling an amazing variety of plants and growing accessories, as well as sales from ASA members.
We look forward to seeing you in Brisbane in 2025, and in upcoming locations to be announced soon!
